Gaming traditionally meant one-armed bandits but the internet opened up entirely new dimensions to gaming making it collaborative and competitive. The classical combination of challenge and reward releases dopamine and embeds a conditioned response in the gamer. It means gamers can, without even noticing, develop a compulsion to play. In extreme cases the compulsion takes over the sufferer’s life. The important things in life just get in the way of gaming. Symptoms such as lack of concentration and moodiness are common but as long the game is played it doesn’t matter. Or does it? So how do you reclaim your life?
With the sufferer understanding what is happening when they game compulsively, hypnosis helps sufferers be aware of undesired consequences before they happen so they can easily make alternative choices. This helps the sufferer take back control, decide if they want to play the game or not without the compulsion to do so. In taking back control, the sufferer feels more balance coming back into their lives helping to put gaming into its proper perspective.
