FAQs

Most people have questions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy and the ones that crop up most frequently are listed here:

What is the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a process to help bring about subconscious change, through hypnosis.

I’ve heard this word ‘trance’, what does it mean?

It’s a pity we don’t have another word other than ‘trance’ because for most people images of a zombie like expression spring to mind which couldn’t be further from the truth. Trance is just a word used to describe a state, similar to daydreaming. The mind ‘freewheels’ like this many times a day although we are not aware of it. The state described as trance can be best described as the transient, relaxed state you feel as you fall asleep.

What if I get stuck in this trance state?

Is just not possible to be ‘stuck’ in trance; you can get up and walk away at any time.

What is hypnosis like?

Hypnosis begins with a relaxation process to exclude external distractions helping to connect with the subconscious to encourage new thoughts, feelings and behaviour after which you open your eyes.

What if I don’t wake up?

You are never asleep; you are comfortably relaxed yet focused and you remain in complete control all the time and when you open your eyes you will feel refreshed, ready to carry on with your day.

Do you play music?

No.

Do I have to lie on a couch?

No, you will sit comfortably in a chair all the time.

Can someone ‘sit-in’ with me?

You may have someone join you for the initial discussion, the treatment however is exclusively confidential to you, the client.

Will it be safe to drive afterwards?

Yes.

Will I remember everything?

Yes. The most common comment is ‘Did you hypnotise me?’

What are the side-effects?

There are no side-effects.

Are results guaranteed?

Hypnotherapy has a high success rate and I guarantee total commitment to help you; hypnosis however cannot be ‘foisted’ upon you against your will so your decision and equal commitment to change are essential.

How many sessions will I need?

In most cases we recommend a minimum of three sessions.
Smoking cessation is normally done in one, two hour session, or two, one hour sessions on different days whichever you prefer.

I’ve heard about self-hypnosis, can you teach me?

Definitely. Self-hypnosis is one of the most useful steps in personal development you can take. Why not consider booking a self-hypnosis session? Many have found it incredibly useful for problem solving and it might be the best thing you do today.

When I have the opportunity to relax I can’t seem to switch off. Can you show me how to ‘power off’?

Definitely. Why not book a session to help you relax or go to sleep when you need to?

I find myself ruminating about things; I even wake up in the middle of the night and start worrying and then go to work tired and not being able to perform just when I need to. Can you help me regain control of my thoughts?

Definitely.
